“The Lamb is its light” (Revelation 21:23)
Light in Scripture represents joy. On Earth, saints have the joy of the Lord (Galatians 5:22), but in Heaven, Christ Himself, will be our joy. “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light” (Revelation 21:23). On the other hand, darkness represents despair. “Cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:13-14).
Light also represents beauty. Saints are made beautiful by knowing Christ: “Beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Light also represents the absence of sin. Saints are made holy by Christ.“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth” (1 John 1:5-6).
Light also represents knowledge. Saints are given the knowledge of God. “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3).
Light also represents manifestation. On Earth, saints have only a slight manifestation of how they’ll live in Heaven. “It has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:2-3).
