“I know their sorrows” (Exodus 3:7)
God knows intimately, everything that will happen to us in the future, and has already made provision. No matter what happens, “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
1. He’s the Physician, and if He knows everything, there’s no need for the patient to know. Hush, you silly, fluttering heart, prying, and suspecting! What you don’t know now, you’ll know in Heaven, and meanwhile, Christ, the beloved Physician, knows what’s best for your soul. Why does the patient question the medicine and treatment? This is the Physician's work, not mine; it’s my business to trust, and His to prescribe. If He writes a prescription I can’t read, I won’t worry about it, but rely on His skill to bring about His purpose, even though the working of it is a mystery.
2. He’s the Master, and His knowledge is far above our own; we are to obey, not to judge. A servant doesn’t always know what his Master is doing (John 15:10). The potter doesn’t explain His intentions to the pot . (Jeremiah 18:6). I shouldn’t second-guess my Lord.
3. He’s the Head. Does the arm tell the head what to do? All wisdom resides in the head. Why should the arm have a brain of its own when the head knows what’s best? Here’s why the saint doesn’t worry, not that he sees the future, but he knows the One who controls it. Oh soul, be content with what your Lord chooses to reveal.
