“For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh” (Galatians 5:17)
Every saint has a choice of walking in the flesh or according to the Holy Spirit. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). Every saint has a New Man, created in Christ Jesus, and an Old Man, which tries to drag him back to sin. “Put off the Old Man with his deeds, and have put on the New Man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Colossians 3:9-10). “Our Old Man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin ... reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord ... present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God” (Romans 6:6-13).
Your Old Man and your flesh will never stop tempting you as long as you’re in the world, but Christ has given you the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:16-17). You can pray without ceasing and take every thought captive. Yes, your Old Man, Satan, the world, and your flesh will try to stumble you, but, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). Don’t be discouraged or dismayed. Fight on! God is with you; Fear not, you shall overcome, for who can defeat Omnipotence? Fight on, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith” (Hebrews 12:2).
"From strength to strength go on; Wrestle, and fight, and pray, Tread all the powers of darkness down, And win the well-fought day."
