“A certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, ‘Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!’ But He said, ‘More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!’” (Luke 11:27-28)
Some people think Mary had a very special privilege as the mother of our Lord, because they suppose she could look into His heart in a way no one else could. There may be something to that assumption, but not much. In fact, if anything, Christ wants us to think we are as much His family as His blood relations. When he was told His family wanted to speak with Him, He said, “‘Who is My mother and who are My brothers?’ And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, ‘Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother’” (Matthew 12:48-50).
All that Mary knew, you can discover. Do you wonder why I say that? I have a text to prove it: “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant” (Psalms 25:14). Remember Christ’s words - “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15).
“He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). If you want to know the greatest hindrance to intimacy with Christ, look in the mirror. He wants you to be “strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man … being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16-19).
