“You are fairer than the sons of men” (Psalms 45:2)
The life of Christ displays the character of God in every way. He didn’t have pride, vanity, or superficial, petty human selfishness. He didn’t fear man, or worry about what man thought of Him. He didn’t bow before wealth or social position. He talked to anyone, anywhere, and cured those who came to Him for healing. He didn’t have a personal agenda, but only did His Father’s will. He was tempted as we are, yet without sin. His perfect human life for mankind succeeded where Adam failed, and His perfect human sacrifice made a way for mankind to be saved.
He wasn’t the product of environmental forces or cultural traditions, but was a picture of beauty and perfection from Heaven. His life on Earth can be studied to find out what God considers to be the perfect man. That’s why the Apostle Paul said, “Be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us” (Ephesians 5:1). “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus ... being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death” (Philippians 2:5-9).
Oh, Jesus! Your power, Your grace, Your justice, Your tenderness, Your truth, Your majesty, and Your immutability make up such a man, or rather such a God-man, as neither heaven nor earth has seen elsewhere. Your infancy, Your eternity, Your sufferings, Your triumphs, Your death, and Your immortality, are all woven in one gorgeous tapestry, without seam or rent. You are music without discord; You are many wonderful traits, yet not divided; You are all things, and yet not diverse. As all the colors blend into one resplendent rainbow, so all the glories of heaven and earth meet in You, and unite so wondrously, that there’s no one like You in all things.
"Oh, sacred symmetry! oh, rare connection Of many perfects, to make one perfection! Oh, heavenly music, where all parts do meet In one sweet strain, to make one perfect sweet!"
