“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish” (John 10:28)
The Christian should consider unbelief to be a great sin. The child of God shouldn’t doubt God’s love, His truth, and His faithfulness, for these indicate a weak relationship with God, or no relationship at all. Saints shouldn’t grieve God by doubting His love. It’s contrary to every promise of God's precious Word!
God said, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands” (Isaiah 49:15-16). “I will uphold you with My righteous right hand … I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you’” (Isaiah 41:10-13).
Christ said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:27-28).
Our faith is not that we are saved, but in Christ, who saves us. This may seem a small distinction, but common faith that you’re saved is not the same as saving faith in Christ. “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). Banish those unbelieving fears that dishonor God. Arise, shake yourself from the dust, and put on your beautiful garments. Remember, it’s sinful to doubt His Word. Let the eternal life within you express itself in confident rejoicing.
"The gospel bears my spirit up: A faithful and unchanging God Lays the foundation for my hope, In oaths, and promises, and blood."
