Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. (Jeremiah 32:17)

The Chaldean army surrounded Jerusalem, and soon, all property would be owned by the invaders. But God, commanded Jeremiah to purchase a field, and have the property deed legally sealed and witnessed. This was a strange purchase for a rational man to make, for there was almost no possibility he could ever enjoy his purchase. But it was enough for Jeremiah that his God had commanded him, for he knew God is ultimately in control of everything. This was how Jeremiah reasoned: "Ah, Lord God! You can make this plot of ground of use to me; You can rid this land of these invaders; You can make me sit under my vine and my fig-tree on the land I purchased; for You made the heavens and the earth, and there’s nothing too hard for You”.

Confidence in God was the majesty of the early saints. They dared to do what God commanded, even though the world ridiculed them. Think of Noah, who built a ship on dry land, because God promised a flood that would cover the Earth. Think of Abraham, who offered Isaac, when God had promised he’d be the father of a great nation. Think of Moses, who gave up the wealth and power of Egypt to lead millions of former-slaves in the desert. Consider Joshua, who walked around Jericho for seven days blowing horns, waiting for God to blow down the wall. And Gideon, knowing he would soon face an army of 135,000, was commanded to reduce his army from 32,000 to just 300!

All these did what God commanded, contrary to the dictates of reason; and the Lord gave them a rich reward as the result of their obedient faith. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we also had heroic faith in God. If we could act in faith on the naked promises of God, we would enter a world of wonders. Let Jeremiah's confidence be yours - nothing is too hard for the God that created the heavens and the earth
