“Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called” (1 Corinthians 7:20)
Some people think they need to go on expensive mission trips to reach the lost in far off lands. The ironic thing is, many Christian denominations in developed countries have departed from the faith, and preach “another gospel”, so third-world missionaries now go to developed countries to plant churches. If you belong to one of these backslidden denominations, you can be salt and light in your church, because most of the people in your church aren’t saved. You’re much more likely to help a nominal Christian come to the knowledge of the truth in your own land than to help people by handing out tracts in a foreign land.
God has you in a specific place. You may be in a backslidden denomination for a reason. If your denomination is on the tipping point of departing from Scripture truth, become a delegate, and vote to maintain Biblical standards. And if you don’t have the money to be a delegate, daily contend for the faith in your church.
Beloved, the saint who speaks of Christ wherever he goes, is far more effective than the once-a-year missionary. The saint, who uses every opportunity, has thousands of interactions per year with meaningful conversations. You may never be recognized as a great servant of God, but God knows, and when you go to Heaven, you’ll hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).
Being a Saint is a lifestyle. Even the most humble act of love is noted by God: “I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me ... inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” (Matthew 25:34-40). Loving others with your time, money and talents are a means of grace for you, as well as the people you help. The more you give, the more you get, and sinners are more likely to hear the Gospel if it’s also displayed in acts of love. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:1).
