“He who opens and no one shuts” (Revelation 3:7)
If you’re saved, the Lord Jesus Christ will let you into Heaven. “I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it ... Because you have kept My command to persevere” (Revelation 3:7-10). The consistent message of Christ in the Book of Revelation is only saints that persevere are saved.
The Greek word translated “persevere” is hupomone, which means “stay under”. Saints must “stay under the Lordship of Christ”. The implication of Christ’s warning is clear:if saints can’t lose their salvation, it means, people who don’t stay under the Lordship of Christ, were never saved.
This is confirmed by Christ in Luke 21:16-19: “You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death … By your patience possess your souls”. Hupomone is translated patience most places. If you stay under the Lordship of Christ, you may be killed, but you won’t lose your soul.
This is confirmed when Christ says the saints who haven’t defiled their garments, “shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He whoovercomesshall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life” (Revelation 3:4-5). The Greek word translated “worthy” is axios, which means “self-evident proof”. The proof you’re saved is you stay under the Lordship of Christ.
We know the names of saints were written in the Book of Life before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8), so why does Christ specifically say He won’t blot out the names of saints that overcome? The implication of Christ’s warning is clear: if saints can’t lose their salvation, it means, people who don’t stay under the Lordship of Christ were never saved.
So submit to the Lord Jesus Christ. He’s the Only One who can open the door of Heaven for you.
