“And because of all this, We make a sure covenant” (Nehemiah 9:38)

Every day, you should maintain a sense of “righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17), but there will be times, when you’ll suddenly become aware that you’ve gradually substituted duty for love in your relationship with God, and need to refresh your covenant with Christ. The basis of your covenant is “not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10). It’s best if refreshing is a continual process, a state of mind, even if you aren’t aware of any sin. You should refresh your covenant with Christ at least once a day, before you sleep*

Go to the cross, ask forgiveness for any sins, and repent. Repent means, by faith, you won’t repeat the sin. Especially do this after any sin which grieved the Holy Spirit, or brought dishonor upon the cause of Christ. Look with fresh eyes upon the blood which makes you whiter than snow, and refresh your covenant with Christ.

But you shouldn’t only do this when you sin. We’re told to “rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:3). Prosperity should cause you to refresh your covenant with Christ. When God blesses you beyond measure, come to Him dressed in the clothes of righteousness He purchased for you, and sit upon the throne of His love, to please Him. If you glorify Christ in your prosperity, He won’t need to humble you with adversity. If you run to God when He blesses you, He won’t need to discipline you so frequently.

Have you received a blessing which you didn’t expect? Has the Lord done something special for you? Don’t keep it inside. This is a time for refreshing from the presence of the Lord. “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10).
