“Him God has exalted” (Acts 5:31)

Christ, our Lord, now sits upon the throne of glory. The highest place is His by undisputed right. “God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name … that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).

It’s sweet to remember the exaltation of Christ in heaven is a representative exaltation. As the Mediator of the New Covenant, the honor of Christ in heaven is the heritage of the saints. It’s delightful to rejoice in How Christ is IN His church and His Church is IN Christ. We are One Spirit with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17); members of His Body (1 Corinthians 12:27); and so, His exaltation is our exaltation.

“God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4-6).

He will invite us as overcomers of our trials, to sit with Him on His throne, just as when He overcame His trials, He sat down with His Father on His throne (Revelation 3:21); As He received a crown, so He will give us crowns (2 Timothy 4:8); He has a throne, but He’ll have His Queen sitting by His side, arrayed in His Righteousness, without any imperfection (Ephesians 5:27). He can’t be glorified without His bride.

Look up, believer, to Christ; let the eye of your faith behold Him with many crowns; and remember that you will one day be like Him, when you shall see Him as He is (1 John 3:2); you won’t be great as He is, but you’ll still share the same honors, and enjoy the same happiness and the same dignity which He possesses. Be content to live unknown for a little while, to walk the fields of poverty, for soon you’ll reign with Christ, for He’s going to make us kings and priests (Revelation 1:6), and we’ll reign with Him for eternity.
