“I know that my Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25)
If any man had reason to “curse God and die!”, it was Job. His own wife gave Job that advice when she saw every one of her children killed in what were obvious
“acts of God”. There was no doubt that God either directly caused or allowed her children to be killed. There was no debate…God was responsible. Yet, in the anguish of his soul, he remained true to God. Yes, he argued his innocence, but he never questioned that God had the right to do whatever He pleased.
Job’s only comfort was that little word, "My". “My Redeemer”. Oh! The difference between knowing about Christ and knowing Him as My Redeemer determines whether you think earthly things more important than salvation. You must be fully invested in Him before you can honestly say “My Redeemer”. Knowing about a buried treasure on a property will do you no good. You need to sell everything you own to buy the property. (Matthew 13:44). The Redeemer meant more to Job than his family and wealth. Salvation is an all-or-nothing proposition. Don’t be content with an outward form of religion. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves … having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
Job used another word that reveals his faith: "I know that my Redeemer lives” To say, "I hope so, I trust so" isn’t enough when testing comes. To be an overcomer of the world, you have to know. “This is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? … He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself” (1 John 5:4-10).
If you have any suspicion that you don’t know Christ, you should question your salvation, before it’s too late. “Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23).
