Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth (Song of Solomon 1:2)
In this season of new life, let us desire our Lord as a bride desires Her Husband. See how she leaps at once to kiss Him; there are no words; she doesn’t even mention His name. He’s the only one in the world for her. How bold is her love! Christ allowed the weeping woman to anoint His feet with spikenard, and it was love which allowed Mary to sit at Christ’s feet to learn of Him, but here is passionate love, without hesitancy or shame. If we’ve received the Holy Spirit, we can approach Christ with “the love of God (which) is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” (Romans 5:5).
By “kisses”, we suppose the Scripture refers to deeper manifestations of the love of God. First, you enjoyed the kiss of reconciliation. God has “reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:18). Next, you experienced the kiss of acceptance. “He made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:6). Then you enjoyed the moment-by-moment kisses of union with Christ. Nothing “shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39). Soon you’ll experience the kiss of reception into Heaven. “Entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:11). And finally, you’ll experience the kiss of consummation. “The marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready” (Revelation 19:7).
Until that day, earnestly desire “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17-19).
