“(We have come) to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel” (Hebrews 12:24)
Reader, did you come to the blood of sprinkling? The question isn’t whether you believed a doctrine, or were baptized in water, or signed your name to a decision card, or repeated a salvation prayer, but whether you came to the blood of Christ. It’s the only source of holiness, so if you came to Christ, you came with nothing to recommend you. You were guilty, lost, and helpless. His blood alone was your only hope. You came to the cross of Christ, with a trembling and aching heart; and oh! What a precious sound it was to hear the blood of Christ speak!
“You have come to ... the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. See that you do not refuse Him who speaks” (Hebrews 12:22-25)
His blood says, "It is finished; I’ve made an end of sin; I’ve purchased everlasting righteousness”. Oh! The words are so sweet, if you came to the blood once, you’ll come to it every time you stumble. Your life will be a moment-by-moment, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2). The guiding principle of your life, will be to get closer to Christ by His blood, and never take His blood for granted. If you don’t see His blood as more precious and necessary for you today than when you first came to Him, you have reason to doubt your salvation.
If you don’t desire to wash in it every day, you’ve never washed in it at all. Blood-washed saints feel the joy and privilege of continually coming to the fountain. Only “the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, (can) cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God” (Hebrews 9:14-15).
