“A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me” (Song of Solomon 1:13)

Myrrh could be a type of Christ because its preciousness, its fragrance, its healing power, its preserving ability, its disinfecting quality, and its use in sacrifices to God. But why is Christ compared to "a bundle of myrrh"? First of all, He’s sufficient for every need. He’s not just a drop or a smear, He’s infinite. There’s enough in Christ for your every need, and you’ll never exhaust His supply.

He’s also compared to a "bundle" for His variety of graces: “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power” (Colossians 2:9-10). Christ is the supreme being in His bundle of ministries: Priest, Prophet, King, Advocate, Apostle, Judge, Redeemer, Mediator, Messiah, Creator, Husband, Friend, Savior, Lord, Shepherd, and Word of God. Consider what He’s done, what He’s doing, and what He will do with His bundle of perfect virtues: gentleness, courage, self-denial, love, faithfulness, truth, and righteousness.

He’s a "bundle of myrrh" as the fragrance of life and death. “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life” (2 Corinthians 2:14-16).
