“Before honor is humility” (Proverbs 15:33)

Humiliation of the soul always brings a positive blessing with it. If you empty your heart of self, God can use you. Remember what He told us: “On this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My Word” (Isaiah 66:2). Of course, you must die with Christ before He can use you. “Our Old Man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him” (Romans 6:6-8).

God can trust you with blessings if He knows you’ll give Him the glory. If God isn’t blessing you, it’s possible it isn’t safe for you to receive a blessing. God may keep you low in spirit for your own protection. But if you’re humble, and never seek recognition, there’s no limit to what God can do with you.

If you want God to use you, always keep in mind everything you do for God is your duty. This can be difficult, especially when God gives you a miracle or a great victory. Always consider, He does these things for the people you help, not necessarily for you. This is how Christ taught His disciples to kill pride: “Which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down to eat'? But will he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink'? Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do'" (Luke 17:7-10).
