“Yes, he is altogether lovely” (Song of Solomon 5:16)

Christ is altogether lovely because He’s perfect God. “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End’, says the Lord, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty’” (Revelation 1:8). If you were to put Christ on one side of a scale and all the lovely things in the world on the other, there would be no contest. “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (James 1:16-17).

Christ is altogether lovely because of what He did as perfect man for us.  “Through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life ... where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 5:18-21).

Christ is altogether lovely because of what He’s going to do. Every court case will be re-litigated, every injustice remedied. “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him” (Revelation 1:8). “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men” (2 Corinthians 5:10-11). While there’s still time, “proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples” (Psalms 96:2-3).
