“It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man” (Psalms 118:8)

Every saint is tempted to trust in the power of his own abilities more than the promises of God. Even if God has supernaturally given you a New Man and made you a temple of the Holy Spirit, you still live in the flesh with carnal instincts and the Old man dogging you. The ironic thing is, Christians who’ve trusted in Christ for their eternal salvation still have a hard time trusting Him to lead them in earthly things. Most of the time, it comes down to patience. The Greek Word translated patience, for the Christian, means “stay under the Lordship of Christ”. Do we have the patience to continue in submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ when things look desperate? Do you have patience to believe He’ll give you the wisdom to resolve the problem or work your way through it?

Every word the Apostle James says on this subject is essential for being victorious. “Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:2-8).

I will say this once, so read it, and think about it, until you understand what James is saying. It’s so profound; most people don’t “get it”. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God ... and it will be given to him”, means, if you have faith, you’ll stay under the Lordship of Christ, trusting HE IS GIVING YOU THE ANSWER. If you don’t have patience, you’ll get out from under the Lordship of Christ, and Satan’s got you.
