“Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty” (Proverbs 18:12)

Pride is just as sure an indication of future disaster as a barometer is of future rain. The Apostle Peter warned saints, "‘God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble’. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:5-6). Christ warned, “whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted’ (Luke 14:11). These are axiomatic statements, not to be debated.

Pride is self-deluding, making it impossible to see without help from an outside source. If the saint doesn’t wake up, he’ll continue into deliberate sin. Be assured, “the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world” (1 John 2:16). Pride ignores the fact that God is responsible for all good things and should be praised. Oh, Christian, is your heart lifted in pride this evening? Do you think, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing”? Christ says to you “do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked?” (Revelation 3:17).

Is there a talent God didn’t give you? “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights” (James 1:16-17). Self-sufficiency becomes straw for the dunghill. If you forget to live at the foot of the cross, destruction will soon come. “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord ” (2 Corinthians 10:17).
