“I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out” (Luke 19:40)
Could stones cry out? Certainly, the Creator who made the rock, could make it speak like he did the bush and the donkey. Every saint has something in common with rocks that speak. When God regenerated your heart and filled you with the Holy Spirit, He changed your heart of stone to a heart of flesh, and put His Spirit in you, to walk in His ways (Ezekiel 36:26-27). And now, “‘The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the Word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:8-10).
A rock that reminds us of what God has done is called an “Ebenezer” (1 Samuel 7:12), but infinitely greater is the fact that you, “as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5). Talking rocks are child’s play compared to the miracle of Christ IN you (1 Corinthians 6:17-19). Even the prophet Elijah never experienced God IN HIM. “And behold, the Lord passed by ... the wind ... an earthquake ... a fire ... a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:11-12). The crucial word for Elijah was GOD’S VOICE. Christ in us, quickening His spoken Word recorded in the Bible, is the greatest miracle of all.
Do you speak for Christ in the face of persecution? “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death” (Revelation 12:11). “Whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).
