“He is precious” (1 Peter 2:7)
As the rivers run into the sea, so all our delight should be in our Beloved. His glory outshines the sun: His beauty is fairer than the choicest flowers: His fragrance fills us with awe. All the wealth on land and sea is worthless compared to Him. The Apostle Peter said Jesus is precious, but he didn’t tell us how precious, or compute the value of God's unspeakable gift.
Words are inadequate to describe how precious Christ is to the saint. He can have everything the world has to offer and be miserable if He feels that God is displeased with him. On the other hand, if the saint has a sense of God’s approval, money and possessions mean nothing by comparison. What a howling wilderness this world would be without our precious Lord! If He hides Himself from us, we wither like flowers; our ripe fruit decays; the birds stop singing, and we expect bad things to happen.
If you combine all the lights on earth, they would be nothing compared to the “Son of Righteousness” (Malachi 4:2). Christ is the Soul of your soul, the Light of your light, the Life of your life. Dear reader, what would you do, if He wasn’t with you from this day forward? What would you do tonight, if you couldn’t speak with Him before you sleep? Praise God, He’ll never leave or forsake you, but thinking about the possibility, makes Him seem all the more precious.
