You shall call His name Jesus (Matthew 1:21)
When you care about someone, you’re interested in everything that concerns them. That’s why saints think and feel, everything about Christ is glorious. King David said to our Savior, “All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia” (Psalms 45:8). The Person of Christ is lovely in every sense. There isn’t a place His foot touched, a word He uttered, a thought recorded in the Scriptures that isn’t precious to us.
This is also true of the names of Christ. Every one is sweet to the believer's ear. Whether He’s called the Husband of the Church, her Bridegroom, her Friend; whether He’s portrayed as the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, the King, the Prophet, the Priest, Chief Cornerstone, the Way, the Truth and the Life, He is precious.
Every title of our Master is like a honeycomb dripping with honey, every drop capable of stimulating the senses: Shiloh, Emmanuel, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Alpha and Omega, and the Fountain of Living Waters to name a few.
But if there’s one name sweeter than any other, it’s the name Jesus. It’s the same name translated in the Old Testament as “Joshua”, which means “Jehovah saves”. The Angel Gabriel told Joseph, “you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). For the Christian, Jesus means “the One who saved me!”.
"Jesus, I love Thy charming name, 'Tis music to mine ear."
