“You have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place” (Psalms 91:9)

For forty years in the wilderness, the nation of Israel was continually on the move. When the pillar of cloud stood still, they pitched their tents, but just as quickly, the pillar would move and they’d be off again. It led them through countless mountain passes, hills, valleys and deserts. Every time they started to relax, the trumpet would sound and each tribe took its place in the procession. Onward to Canaan Land! They never stopped long in any one place. Even palm trees and water wells couldn’t hold them long.

But all that time they rested in their God. His cloudy pillar was their roof, and its flame their home. Yes, they had to move from place to place, continually changing, never settling, but Moses could honestly say, “Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations" (Psalms 90:1).

Is it so with you? A saint may be rich today and poor tomorrow; sickly to-day and well tomorrow; happy today and sad tomorrow, but there’s no change with regard to God. If, God loved you yesterday, He loves you today, and that’s all that matters. “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls - Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:17-18). “In You, O Lord, I put my trust … For You are my rock and my fortress” (Psalms 71:1-3). “I’m just a pilgrim in this world, but I’m at home with God. In the earth I may wander, but in God I dwell secure”.
