“The wrath to come” (Matthew 3:7)
After spending a night listening to the wind of a violent storm, it’s pleasant to walk out in the morning to see everything has returned to normal. Everything smells fresh, and all that remains of the storm is a few drops of water that glisten in the morning light. That’s the way a Christian looks at his life. Just as the storm spent itself on the land, the wrath of God was spent on Christ for the sins of the world, and what remains reminds him of the mercy of God.
But there’s a storm coming, from which the world will not recover. The sure fate of every sinner who doesn’t repent before the Day of the Lord will find the One who came as his Savior now comes as his Judge. “Every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?’” (Revelation 6:15-17).
There will be no place for sinners to hide! “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies," says the Lord God. "Therefore turn and live!" (Ezekiel 18:30-32). “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel." (Mark 1:15).
