“He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21)

Many people, if they’re asked what they know about salvation, will say, “It’s how you avoid hell and are allowed into heaven”. This is one result of salvation, but not even a tenth of the “package deal”. It’s true Christ redeems His people from the wrath to come; but what He accomplished by living as the perfect man and dying on the cross is far more than this. He saves His people not only from punishment for their sins, but FROM THEIR SINS. Christ’s work IN the saint is NOW. He casts Satan from his throne, and creates a New Man in the saint, “therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
If you’re saved, God’s given you the ability to “put off, concerning your former conduct, the Old Man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts … and that you put on the New Man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

No saint lets sin reign in his mortal body. We’ll never be utterly free from sin until were given new bodies; but sin no longer has dominion. This side of Heaven, there’ll always be a striving of the Old Man versus the New Man, but the sin nature is gone, and will never get back control. Christ is the Master of your heart, and you can put to death the deeds of the flesh. Is sin subdued in you? If your life is unholy, your heart is unchanged, and if your heart is unchanged, you’re not saved!

If Christ has saved you, you’ll hate sin and love holiness. Grace that doesn’t make man better, is a worthless counterfeit. Christ saves His people, not in their sins, but from them. “Lord, save me now from all evil, and enable me to honor my Lord and Savior”.
