“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God” (1 Corinthians 2:12)

Have you received the Holy Spirit? “Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness” (Romans 8:9-10).

There are millions of church-goers that do not have the Spirit of Christ in them. The confidence that Christ is in you is not acquired through education. It’s a supernatural impartation of God which Christ called being “born of the Spirit”. “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again” (John 3:5-7).

“That we might know the things that are freely given to us of God”

Charles Spurgeon didn’t experience the assurance of election until the Spirit of God illuminated his understanding. It was only then he knew God had chosen him before time began. It was as if the blessings of election were hung on a nail out of reach. He needed the Holy Spirit to take them down and hand them to him, and thus they become his most precious possession. Christ's finished work is like wine stored in a barrel we can’t see until the Holy Spirit pours the wine, and only then can we drink.

The Holy Spirit illuminates, comforts, and helps us pray, but most importantly, He joins us to God, making us one spirit with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17). If Christ is in you, you’ll be sure to never “grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30).
