“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (Matthew 4:1))
Just because Christ was without sin, it didn’t mean He wasn’t tempted to sin. Just because He was born in the flesh without a sin nature, it didn’t mean he couldn’t have sinned. It wasn’t only Christ’s death, but also His sinless life that restored for mankind, the possibility of communion with God. Even though Christ had complete control over His thoughts and feelings, Satan tempted Him. Even though Christ never did anything unless He was instructed by the Father (John 5:19), and never said anything unless His father told Him to say it (John 12:49), Satan still tempted Him. How much more will Satan tempt you!
“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:12-13).
You may think you’ll never give in to sin, but “pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:11-13).
