“Although the Lord was there” (Ezekiel 35:10)

To the leaders of Edom, the Jews looked defenseless, and counted on an easy conquest; but there was one great difficulty in their way – “the Lord was there”, and His Presence couldn’t be moved. Today, saints should never fear , for “the Lord is there”, and He protects His property.

“He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

What a comfort to know He’s with us in our many troubles and spiritual conflicts! We’re constantly opposed, and yet perpetually preserved! How often Satan attacks, but our shield of faith is able to “quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:16), for “the Lord is there”.

He attacks not only what we do, but our thoughts and feelings. Every virtue and grace is a target. Longsuffering and hope, fervent love, enduring patience, and Gospel zeal, he tries to destroy. The only reason why anything virtuous or lovely survives in us is, "the Lord is there”.

We don’t even fear death, because Christ lived a perfect life and died a perfect death to “destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2:14-15).

Since we don’t fear judgment, we can have perfect love. “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.  We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:17-19).
