“He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever” (John 14:16)

Since the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit dwells within every saint. He’s the Spirit of Christ, God with us, quickening, guiding, and helping us pray, grow spiritually, and do good works. “Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His” (Romans 8:9).

Do we fully appreciate His essential work? We can’t control His working, but are we seeking His help? Without Him we can do nothing. Everything depends on whether He manifests or conceals His power. If we don’t enlist His help, we may accomplish some of God’s will, but certainly not as much as we would if we were led by Him.

You can have confidence in your good works if you’re led of the Holy Spirit. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). You can have confidence in your prayers if you’re led of the Holy Spirit. “The natural (soulish) man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:13). “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Let’s humble ourselves for neglecting the indwelling Holy Spirit. “Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, ‘The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously’? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: ‘God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble’” (James 4:5-6). Seek His help in all things. That’s why He lives inside you (John 14:26).
