“And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness” (Genesis 1:4)
Light is good. "Let there be light" is a revelation of God. Physical light is sweet, but Gospel light is absolutely necessary to reveal our need of supernatural regeneration to see things clearly. When the Holy Spirit gives us spiritual light, and opens our eyes to behold the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ, we see sin in its true colors, and ourselves in our real position; we see God as He reveals Himself, the plan of mercy as He explains it, and the world to come as He describes it. Spiritual light has many colors when seen through the prism of the Word, but whether they be knowledge, joy, holiness, or Life, these are all revelations of God. Oh Lord, since light is so good, give us more of it, and more of Yourself, the True Light.
Light has nothing in common with darkness; God has divided them, so never confuse them. Sons of light must not have fellowship with deeds, doctrines, or deceits of darkness. The children of the day must be sober, honest, and bold in the Lord's work, leaving the works of darkness to those who will dwell in it for all eternity. Our Churches should always distinguish the light from the darkness, and saints should individually come out from the world. In judgment, in action, in hearing, in teaching, in association, we must discern between the holy and the profane, and maintain the distinction the Lord made on the world's first day. Oh Lord Jesus, be my Life and Light this day. “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4).
