“Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain, and outran the Cushite” (2 Samuel 18:23)
When two men compete to reach a destination, the speed of the runners is not as important as the paths they take. In this case, Ahimaaz could have been the slower runner, but he chose a course he knew would be straight and level instead of up and down. In your spiritual journey, are you struggling up hills of pride and down valleys of failure, or are you on the level plain of “believe and live” (Colossians 2:6)?
What a blessing to trust Christ who’s already won the race instead of worrying whether or not you’re fast enough. “Those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength ... They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
Christ IS the Way of Life. You should love the Way and not look for another. “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:31). You can run directly to Christ, because He’s not only running the race with you, He’s also waiting for you at the finish line! “Run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). Resolve in your heart this evening, “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).
