“The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them” (Luke 2:20)
The shepherds didn’t just hear the good tidings, they went and saw for themselves that it was true. They proved what the angel said, and publicly praised God, and so, became a part of the greatest event in history. Let’s copy them; let’s not only tell what we heard other people say about Christ and His salvation, let’s share our own experience with Him. It’s not enough to hear a song about Christ: living faith must create the music. Can you say, “Now I believe, not just because of what I heard from others, but what I’ve experienced myself” (John 4:35)?
The shepherds verified what the angel said was true. Have you verified the Gospel? Christ said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you” (John 14:27). He said, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:9). He said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:7). He said, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (John 14:21). He said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain” (John 15:16). He said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:24-25). He said, “Do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:31-33).
If you’ve proved the Word of Christ be true, glorify and praise God by telling others, and like the shepherds, become a part of the greatest event in history.
