“Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law” (Romans 3:31)
When the believer is adopted into the Lord's family, his relationship to the first Adam and the law is over; but then he’s under a new rule, and a new covenant. Believer, you are God's child; it’s your first duty to love and obey your heavenly Father. You’re adopted into the family of God, and as such, are bound to obey your Father's will, and much more, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37)
Does He command you to practice righteousness? If He doesn’t, it means you don’t belong to Him. “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 John 3:10). Does He command you to be conformed into the image of Christ? If He doesn’t, it means you don’t belong to Him. “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29). “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts” (Romans 13:13). “But we all … are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Does He command you to love the saints? If He doesn’t, it means you don’t belong to Him. “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren” (1 John 3:14). Does He command you to obey His Word? If He doesn’t, it means you don’t belong to Him. “He who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it … is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work” (James 1:25). “As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:15-16). Yes, Christ kept the commandments so you don’t need to keep them in order to be saved, but if God saved you, you’ll keep them because God is your Father.
"If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14:23).
