“We will remember your love more than wine” (Song of Solomon 1:4)
Why do we appreciate the Love of God in Christ for us? There’s two reasons. The first reason is, “Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Romans 5:8-9). The second reason we appreciate the Love of God in Christ for us is, “Much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life ... through whom we have now received the reconciliation” (Romans 5:10-11). The love of God in Christ was demonstrated two ways. Christ didn’t just die for our sins, He also lived a perfect life in our place to reconcile us to God.
Christ said to the Father, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me ... Behold, I have come - In the volume of the book it is written of Me - To do Your will, O God” (Hebrews 10:5-7). The Father’s will was that Christ live a perfect life from the cradle to the grave - every word and deed was an act of love. He showed us what unconditional love and submission to God looks like. “I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak (John 12:49-50). “The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner” (John 5:19).
“Just as through one man sin entered the world ... much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many ... For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous” (Romans 5:12-19). So let’s remember God’s love in Christ as a perfect life lived for us and a perfect sacrifice to set us free to walk in His steps. “For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps ... having died to sins, might live for righteousness” (1 Peter 2:21-24).
