“We will be glad and rejoice in You” (Song of Solomon 1:4)
We begin the year with joy and thanksgiving to our God. “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation” (Psalms 95:1). As the called and chosen and faithful, we drive away our worries and set up banners of confidence and love in the name of God. Let sinners wallow in their troubles, we who know Christ will magnify the Lord!
As the temple of the Holy Spirit, we adore and bless the name of Jesus. We will, as a conscious and deliberate act, not dishonor our Bridegroom by mourning in His presence. We will be glad and rejoice: two words with one sense, double joy, blessedness upon blessedness. There’s no need to limit our joy. This is the one pleasure that never corrupts. We will be glad and rejoice in You!
Oh Lord, favor us this year with such a sense of Your presence, so from the first to the last day of the year we will be glad and rejoice in You. Let January open with joy in the Lord, and December close with gladness in our God.
