“He made the iron float” (2 Kings 6:6)

The prophet Elisha was asked by his “band of prophets” to come to the Jordan River to watch them cut trees to enlarge their home. An axe head flew into the river and they came to Elisha for a miracle to help them find it. God did one better by making the axe head float, for nothing is impossible for God (Luke 1:37).

I knew a man in Christ a few years ago who was charged with a seemingly impossible task. It seemed absurd in the natural to even make an attempt. But he saw his duty and his faith rose to the occasion; God honored his faith, and deliverance came from a completely unexpected source, when God made the iron float. Another saint faced financial ruin. He went to all his friends for help, but no helped was found. In faith he went to the unfailing Helper, the trouble was averted and his faith was enlarged, when God made the iron float.

A third man was deep in sin, beyond human help. Saints had reproved, warned, invited, and interceded for him in vain. The Old Man seemed too strong for the backslidden man, and he would not repent. Then, in desperation, realizing there was only one way to be restored, he sought God in a brutal season of agonizing prayer. Before long, a blessed answer was sent from heaven and his hard heart was broken, for God made the iron float.

Beloved reader, what is your desperate case? What heavy matter is weighing you down this evening? Bring it to the God of prophets and saints. He always does what’s best for you, “but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Psalms 34:10). Believe in the Lord of hosts, the God of miracles! Ask Him for what you need in the name of Jesus, and you too will see the finger of God working marvels for His people. According to your faith, God will make the iron float.
