“I have many people in this city” (Acts 18:10)
This should be a great encouragement to us to keep sharing the Gospel, because among the enemies of God, there are some elected to salvation. When you take the Word to them, you do so because God has anointed you to be a messenger of Life to their souls, and they will eventually receive it, for God has ordained it.
The evangelist Billy Graham took comfort in God’s miracle. “I don’t believe any man can come to Christ unless God draws him. My job is to proclaim the message. It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to do the work. And so I approach it with a great deal of relaxation now”.
Elected sinners are as much redeemed by the blood of Christ as the saints who worship in Heaven before God’s throne. They are Christ’s property, even though they now are lovers of pleasure and haters of holiness; but since Christ purchased them, they will eventually, respond to the Gospel.
Regeneration is always a miracle, so it should be no surprise to us that the salvation of the vilest sinner is no more difficult than the sinner raised in church. Every person God saves must be supernaturally born again and filled with the Holy Spirit. He says of all elect, “I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts”. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you … I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes” (Hebrews 8:10, Ezekiel 36:25-27).
Only God knows who will be saved, so don’t let the knowledge of election hinder you from obeying Christ’s command. “I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me” (Acts 26:17-18).
