“To proclaim liberty to the captives” (Luke 4:18)
Christ sets saints free from the fear of death. He came to Earth and died on the cross to “destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2:14-15).
Christ sets saints free from the tyranny of self. “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18).
Christ sets saints free from bitterness and hatred. “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you” (Luke 6:27-28).
Christ sets saints free with the Truth. “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32).
Christ opened your eyes, turned you from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God, forgave your sins and gave you an inheritance” (Acts 26:18). Satan may try to reclaim you, but since you belong to the Lord, He’ll protect His possession. The world may try to ensnare you, but greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Your flesh and your Old Man may cause you to stumble, but “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
So, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12-13).
