“The eternal God is your refuge” (Deuteronomy 33:27)
The word refuge can be translated “abiding-place,” which reminds us God is not only our deliverer, the strength in whom we trust, our shield and horn of our salvation, but also the stronghold in which we live (2 Samuel 22:2-3).
Home is where we can relax. IN Him we feel safe. IN Him we shut the world out and dwell in quiet security. Because He is with us, we don’t fear Satan and the world. IN Him we take our rest. When we come home from the battles of the day, wearied with life’s conflicts, we turn to Him, and our soul dwells at ease.
Home is where we can let our hearts loose; we’re not afraid of being misunderstood, or of our words being misconstrued. So, because we’re IN God, we can say anything that we want to Him, laying open all our hidden desires; for if “the secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him”, the secrets of those who fear Him, must be, with their LORD (Psalms 25:14).
Home is also the place we enjoy happiness, and IN God our hearts find their deepest delight. We have joy in Him which far surpasses all other joy. It’s also for our home that we work and labor. These views of God give us strength to bear the daily burdens, and patience to perform our duties; and in this sense we may also say that God is our home.
The Kingdom of God is within you. You are one spirit with God and the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17-19). If you honor His presence, there’s “no condemnation to those who are IN Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1).
