“The trees of the LORD are full of sap” (Psalms 104:16)
Without sap, a tree dies. If a saint is compared to a tree, the sap would represent his Life. The Biblical view of a sinner is he’s a dead tree. He must be born of the Holy Spirit in order to become a living tree. The same Holy Spirit that turns a dead tree into a living tree, like sap, enables the tree to grow as God intended.
1) Walking in the Holy Spirit is knowing God’s will. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12).
2) Walking in the Holy Spirit is doing God’s will. “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
3) Walking in the Holy Spirit is having a clean conscience. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1).
4) Walking in the Holy Spirit transforms the saint into the image of Christ. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
5) Walking in the Holy Spirit makes the saint effective for God. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–19).
6) Walking in the Holy Spirit gives the saint assurance of salvation. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16).
7) Walking in the Holy Spirit is resurrection power. “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He …will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
