“The love of Christ compels us” (2 Corinthians 5:14)
How much do you owe Christ? What has He done for you? Has He forgiven your sins? Has He covered you with a robe of righteousness? Has He set your feet upon the rock? Has He established your ways? Has He prepared a place in Heaven for you? Has He written your name in His Book of Life? Has He given you countless blessings? Has He laid up for you a store of mercies, which eye has not seen nor ear heard? Then do something for Christ worthy of His love.
Don’t just make a flowery offering of praise. He’s asked you to do far more. How will you feel when He comes, if you haven’t done what He’s asked you to do? What will you say on that Day if you haven’t shared His love with anyone? What kind of love is that? What kind of love never shows itself in action? “Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed” (Proverbs 27:5).
Who will accept a love so weak that it doesn’t manifest in a single deed of self-denial, of generosity, of heroism, or zeal! Think how He’s loved you, and given Himself for you! Do you know the power of that love? Then let it be like a rushing, mighty wind to your soul to sweep out the clouds of your worldliness, and clear away the mists of sin.
And on that Day, may you hear, “I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me … inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” (Matthew 25:35–40).
